The aluminum material used in MDX series housings makes it possible to manufacture a body that is both lightweight and strong. The all-new high-rigidity, high-durability, and precision MDX series demonstrates the highest levels of performance under a variety of shooting conditions.
Controls almost all of the Canon EOS 7D essential functions underwater.
Every detail of the housing is precision machined from a solid aluminum block to achieve a high-quality texture and design. All edges have been polished carefully for safety.
The housing is protected by a highly corrosion resistant, anodized coating. The coating protects the housing from environmental corrosion and abrasions.
The shutter lever can be operated in two ways – pressing from the top or pulling from the front for quick snap shorts – and offers a smooth halfway press for quickly locking the autofocus.
TTL auto adjustment available when using an optional YS Converter/C. When using a YS Converter/C to enable the TTL auto adjustment, use a 5-pin Sync Cord/N to connect it to a genuine SEA&SEA strobe.
Furnished with a tripod socket in the central region of the bottom surface of the main body. If you remove the attached Ergo Grip, you can also add an optional Grip-Stay L.
Comes standard with two bulkhead connectors: one type-N connector (2-pin wired for manual) and one 6-pin wired connector (for dedicated TTL).

Two Fiber-optic cable sockets
Simply by connecting the Fiber-Optic Cable (L-type) to the connector, the light of the digital camera’s built-in flash is detected and connected to an external strobe. This is considerably less complicated than setting up an electrical connector that requires detailed knowledge. It also eliminates any risks involved when the connector is submerged in water.
Unparalleled design provides easy access to the main dial and the quick control dial. Shutter speed and aperture can be adjusted without removing your hand from the grip. Button to activate live view photography and video is ergonomically positioned for easy access. While holding the grip, you can control AE lock/Index/Reduce lever and AF point selection/Magnify lever and AF start lever to check focus points and then press the start/stop button to record video. The DS161 Movie Substrobe combines all of the functionality of our renowned DS160 with a powerful 500 lumen LED video light. This strobe is everything you need for stunning photos and video.
Strobe Coverage
Professional photographers all over the world prefer the wide and even coverage of our specially made circular flashtubes. The slightly warm color temperature provides rich, natural tones for beautiful macro, portraits and landscapes.
Strobe Compatibility
The DS161 Movie Substrobe is compatible with all Ikelite TTL systems and current digital cameras, as well as all older TTL film cameras including the Nikonos system. A variety of sync cords, sensors, and TTL adapters are available to connect to almost any camera system currently on the market.
Strobe Power
The DS161 recycles in a quick 1.5 sec from full discharge. When fired at a fractional power — whether in TTL or manual mode — the strobe recycles virtually instantaneously. Number of flashes per full charge will increase dramatically in most cases when using in TTL mode with a compatible camera system. The powerful DS161 is adjustable in 10 half-stop increments for precise control over your exposure when used in manual mode.
Movie Light Coverage
Three super-bright LEDs are arranged behind a special optical element to provide 45 degrees angle of coverage free of hotspots. The daylight balanced color temperature brings out true, natural colors with or without the use of a color correcting filter. Movie Light Modes
With the strobe set to the `Batt w/Lite` position, the movie light is adjustable between 100% and 50% power in 10 fractional power settings. An `SOS` mode emits the universal signal for help in an emergency situations.
With the strobe set to the `On w/Lite` position, the movie light doubles as an aiming light for focusing or night diving. The light automatically turns off and back on when the strobe fires so there is no effect on photos.
Movie Light Burn Time
Custom circuitry and highly efficient drivers provide 5 hours of continuous burn time on a fully charged battery with no waning effects. Continuous use of the light at full power reduces number of full power flashes by less than 15%.
Accessories
The #4061 DS161 comes standard with rechargeable NiMH battery pack and flash diffuser. The NiMH battery pack requires #4066.1 Smart Charger, not included. A variety of strobe mounts and arms are available for attachment to almost any system.
The DS161 accepts the same #4066.5 NiMH module used on our DS125 and DS160 Substrobes. If you intend to use an older battery pack on your new Substrobe, please read this Important Notice regarding these batteries.
